Dr. Yi provides comprehensive and individualized care for his patients while exercising the highest ethical standard. He is Board Certified in both Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Yi’s approach is pragmatic and straightforward. He conducts a thorough initial evaluation and works closely with his patients and families. He tries to arrive at a sensible treatment plan that will work for each patient and family. He believes in a collaborative team approach and engages various agencies including schools, outpatient providers and therapists for optimal care.

Dr. James Yi graduated from Cornell University with magna cum laude and Distinction in All Subjects. He subsequently completed a combined MD-PhD program at Temple University School of Medicine. His Ph.D. dissertation in Molecular Biology and Genetics focused on the effects of DNA mutations on cancer development. After his MD-PhD training, Dr. Yi completed an Adult Psychiatry Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). While at CHOP, he served as a Chief Resident for Inpatient Services and was awarded the Elizabeth B. Weller Distinguished Fellow Award for excellence in clinical care and research.

Following his fellowship at CHOP, Dr. Yi pursued additional training in Neuropsychiatry at The University of Pennsylvania (UPENN) and in Immunology at CHOP. He was awarded the NIH T32 Fellowship and conducted research focusing on the impact of inflammation on psychiatric disorders as well as early intervention and treatment for children and adolescents with psychotic symptoms.

Additionally, he has presented his work both nationally and internationally and has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Yi was the recipient and Principal Investigator for a highly competitive NIMH research grant aimed at identifying immunological biomarkers for psychotic disorders in children and adolescents. He was appointed Attending Psychiatrist at CHOP and Adjunct Assistant Professor at UPENN. He has provided clinical supervision to psychiatric residents and fellows.
